{POSTAL ETIQUETTE} Like any enduring tradition, sending and receiving social stationery and invitations adheres to a special set of postal etiquette rules. The following recommendations comply with traditional guidelines your grandmother would insist upon.
{WHEN TO SEND} SAVE-THE-DATE CARDS Sending out Save-the-Date cards ensure that your nearest and dearest mark their calendars, and if need be make travel plans. For local weddings we recommend sending Save-the-Dates 6-12 months beforehand. For destination weddings, depending on the locale, we recommend 6-8 months prior. Save-the-Date cards include your name, the event date and event location. For destination weddings we encourage couples to list travel information and accommodations, but including it is not a necessity. These extra details also come in handy if many of your guests are from out of town. WEDDING INVITATIONS If your wedding is local, we recommend mailing invitations 6-8 weeks prior. For destination weddings, a lead-time of 2-3 months is necessary, so your friends and family can plan accordingly. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS Everyone will understand that as a new mom your free time is minimal (nonexistent?) As a result, it is okay to mail announcements 6 months (or more, gasp!) after your the baby's arrival. For extra organized moms, we offer 2 proofs free of charge, so we're prepared if it's a boy or girl (or both)! We also recommend printing your list of addressees onto clear labels ahead of time. Then just recruit a good friend or family member to stuff, stamp and seal. Or take advantage of our stuffing and sealing services and hit up the friends and family members for babysitting instead. Birth announcements typically include the baby's name, date of birth, weight, length (optional) and parents’ names. HANDWRITTEN/ THANK YOU NOTES After receiving a gift, attending an a special event or if you are just feeling particularly thoughtful, a handwritten note is a lovely way to say thank you. If possible, a note should be sent within the week, though it will surely be appreciated whenever the mood strikes. {HOW TO SEND} ADDITIONAL POSTAGE Bear in mind that square and heavier pieces will require extra postage. We recommend having your invitation suite weighed at your local post office to ensure the proper postage. We recommend Hand-Cancelled Postage for wedding invitations. This process of hand-stamping postage ensures that your pristine envelopes don't arrive covered in black ink from the postal machines. Unfortunately, this process is only offered at limited post offices in each area; so be sure contact your local post office to find this service at a location near you. {STUFFING AND SEALING} Yup, we do that too.
